Celebrating the life of
David R. Durden
October 14, 1937 - September 16, 2015
David Richmond Durden, 77, passed away peacefully into heaven on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born in Savannah, Georgia on October 14, 1937, to Earl & Susie Durden. For 58 years, David was a loving husband to LaTrelle Cook Durden. He was an encouraging father to their two very energetic sons, Michael and Joey (Christina). Later, he was a very animated and inspirational grandfather to his four granddaughters, Candace (Jim), Brittany (Jae), Lyndsay (James), Isabella, and four great-grandsons. He is also survived by a sister, Beverly Thomas, of Alabama, and several nieces and nephews.
David never met a stranger and quickly recognized a friend, or friend-of-a-friend everywhere he went. Always immersed in activity, David was never an idle man. For many years, David belonged to the Alee Temple. The Alee Temple and his fellow shriners were a major part of his life and he loved to serve. He was also a member of the Tybee Lite Shrine Club, the Royal order of Jesters, and the fraternity of Free Masons.
Even is his last days, David thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, good neighbors and lifetime friends. The family would like to thank Hospice Savannah for their dedicated care given to Mr. Durden.
Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Fox & Weeks, Islands Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Masonic rites.
Remembrances may be made to Morris Slotin Fund or Hospice Savannah.
David was a member of the 117 Air Control Squadron, Ga. Air National Guard. I met him there when I joined the unit in 1973. "Once a member always a member". Became his Eastpines neighbor in 1989. Good man and good neighbor. He will be missed.

Latrell and Family: I'm so sorry to hear of David's death. He will be sorely missed. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and kept a close eye on what was happening in the neighborhood. I'm sorry I missed the services, I just got home from the hospital. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help during this difficult time. Your neighbor, Holly
